Following a €1.7B tender, four lines are being set up, with access for partners expected after the first calls in April 2025
The EU’s Chips Joint Undertaking will open a €180 million call for a fifth semiconductor pilot line for advanced photonic integrated circuits on Thursday, as it further advances the strategy of supporting the testing of new chip designs to ‘bridge the gap from lab to fab’ and make Europe more self-sufficient in semiconductors.
The call, which is open until 17 September, comes a month after the French research institute CEA-Leti held the kick-off meeting for FAMES, the first of the EU co-funded pilot lines, on 24 June.
FAMES will be followed by pilot lines at imec in Leuven, Fraunhofer in Dresden, and Italy’s National Research Council (CNR) in Catania. The four were selected to set up the lines after the Chips…
