German Hector Foundation funding will support recruitment, infrastructure development and training

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) has received a €40 million donation from the German Hector Foundation to advance the use of artificial intelligence in life sciences.
The philanthropic donation will fuel the EMBL’s vision for AI in science by funding the creation of dedicated AI research groups, data engineering teams, fellowship and training programmes, and new infrastructures.
The support follows a series of other philanthropic donations to the EMBL, a massive international molecular biology research laboratory that supports fundamental research, develops databases and trains scientists.
