The EU Clean Hydrogen joint undertaking expects its 2025 call to have a significantly larger budget when it is published in mid-January, compared to the €113.5 million on offer this year.
In 2025 the partnership will enter its technology upscaling phase, with priorities including new hydrogen applications in steel making, trucks, rail and maritime transport; the development of EU-wide logistical and transportation infrastructure for hydrogen; and the completion of an open and competitive EU hydrogen market.
The work programme is yet to be adopted, but the call is likely to include for the first time a topic on natural hydrogen, after the partnership’s remit was amended in June 2024 to include the possibility of exploiting naturally-occurring hydrogen stores.
