Innovation actions pour up to €100 million per award into clean aviation and railway partnerships

Industry-led aviation and railways partnerships run nine out of the ten largest Horizon Europe innovation projects, at least in terms of the contribution made from the EU research budget.
Five of the top ten innovation actions are run by the Clean Aviation partnership, developing technologies such as hydrogen-powered propulsion engines and open fan aircraft.
The Europe's Rail joint undertaking takes another four spots in the top ten, with projects exploring concepts such as autonomous trains and the integration of the EU’s railway system.
Innovation actions are one of three types of Horizon Europe projects. They usually have bigger budgets than research projects, because they fund more expensive activities: prototyping, testing, demonstrating, piloting, large-scale product validation and market replication of European innovations.
