Among EU funding programmes, the Innovation Fund is one of the world’s largest backing low-carbon technologies. In 2024, of the €4.8 billion in funding it awarded, €1.6 billion was allocated to hydrogen projects.
In addition to the Investment Fund, over the years, the EU has supported hydrogen research through Horizon Europe, the Connecting Europe Facility, REPowerEU , the Just Transition mechanism and the Clean Hydrogen partnership.
