In 2021, the EU adopted ‘Mission Starfish 2030: Restore our Ocean and Waters’ as one of the five Horizon Europe Missions.
The Starfish Mission to restore and protect marine and freshwater ecosystems through targeted actions and research, follows on from other initiatives dating back to 1993, through which the EU has applied a mixture of legislation, funding, research and international cooperation, in a bid to protect aquatic ecosystems.
