The European Commission will today launch a Horizon Europe call on hydrogen research and innovation, further underlining the EU’s commitment to this clean energy source.
The call builds on EU-backed research from the early 2000s that was the spur for the Fuel cells and hydrogen joint undertaking in Framework Programme 7, and which entered a second phase in Horizon 2020, when it had a budget of €1.33 billion.
In Horizon Europe, the Clean hydrogen partnership shifted the focus towards deployment.
In 2020, the EU introduced the European Hydrogen Strategy, setting out policy actions in five key areas: investment support; boosting production and demand;creating a hydrogen market and infrastructure; fostering research; and encouraging international cooperation.
