As member states call for greater cooperation between the two, here’s how they collaborate now
In a Council conclusion published last month on the evaluation of the Horizon 2020 research programme, member states called on the Commission to do more to enable the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the European Innovation Council (EIC) to combine their efforts, align strategies and avoid duplication.
The Council said the Commission should continue backing innovation projects, boost the EU’s technology potential, and strengthen the European capital market to provide finance to enable high tech start-ups to grow.
In addition, there should also be moves to, “further deepen synergies between relevant innovation instruments and programmes, such as to enhance complementarities between [EIT] and EIC in support of innovation and to assess options to avoid overlap of instruments.”
