Boston Scientific, a specialist in medical devices for minimally invasive surgical procedures, is to invest €50 million in R&D at its facility in Galway, Ireland.

Ireland’s inward investment arm, IDA Ireland, gave an upbeat and positive message in its review of 2007 – despite challenging global economic circumstances.

The business intelligence software company Business Objects is to invest €29 million in establishing an R&D Centre in Ireland employing 100 researchers.

All research papers resulting from Irish Research Council funding must now be placed in an open access repository within six months of first publication.
