EMC Corporation is to invest Euro 20 million in research and development activities over the next five years at its campus in Ovens, Co Cork with the support of the inward development body IDA Ireland.

The R&D investment and related new engineering positions will initially focus on software development for EMC’s storage systems and resource management software products.

EMC Corporation established its first manufacturing facility outside of North America in Co. Cork in 1988. The Cork campus now employs 1,600 and alongside its manufacturing operations, hosts functions including international customer support, technical solutions and international finance.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin said, “As a global leader in the IT industry with substantial investment and high value employment in Ireland, EMC is a key reference site for IDA in selling Ireland’s value proposition to other IT companies looking to invest here.”

“This R&D investment is a very significant commitment to Cork.  The proposed up-skilling will strengthen the Oven’s Campus position to effectively compete for a broader range of future technologies within EMC.”
