The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is to be structured as a facility in Horizon Europe, with a budget of €120 million in 2025 and a dedicated work programme. The move will consolidate funding for the built environment and architecture initiative, which until now has been supported through ad-hoc actions in Horizon Europe and other programmes.
So far, the EU has spent around €500 million on various NEB projects and flagships.
The change is also expected to bring an increase in support for traditional research and innovation projects under the NEB, considered lacking by stakeholders who expected more from an initiative rooted in the EU’s research programme.
According to Marcos Ros Sempere, a member of the European Parliament and long-time Bauhaus advocate, it is time for the NEB to deliver on its promises after years finding its feet.
