The Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) is the world’s largest and most advanced high-power laser research infrastructure. As an international user facility dedicated to multi-disciplinary science, ELI provides access to world-class high-power, high-repetition-rate laser systems and enables cutting-edge research, as well as breakthrough technological innovations. The ELI organisation is multi-site with two complementary facilities: ELI Beamlines in Dolní Břežany (Czech Republic) and ELI ALPS in Szeged (Hungary). 

We are seeking to fill the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO). The person in this role leads the development and deployment of ELI’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) strategy and policies, consistent with ELI’s mission. That person will coordinate the activities of the groups involved in ICT operations across all ELI ERIC Facilities, ensuring that ELI implements a unified approach to ICT operations that meets the organisation’s requirements in terms of service level, risk and compliance. This includes but is not limited to oversight of software, hardware, infrastructure, and scientific data management. 

What will you do: 
In this role, you have the opportunity to shape and structure ELI’s ICT strategy and lead ELI’s technological advance in these areas, enabling the facilities to maintain a world-class scientific programme. This senior position implies responsibilities covering all aspects of modern computing and software technologies, and offers exciting opportunities for development and for leadership resolving technical challenges. The position reports to the Director General and liaises with the other members of the Management Board. 

The main activities of the role are
• Ensure operational excellence of IT services for data processing, storage, networking, and compute infrastructure by leading the definition and enforcing ELI-wide operational standards and protocols 
• Oversee robust IT governance, risk management, and resilience to support mission critical operations 
• Coordinate the planning of ICT operations, investments, and strategic initiatives and related budgets reflecting organisational priorities, 
• Develop multi-annual ICT plans in close cooperation with the Facility Directors, ELI ERIC Director of Science, and other key stakeholders 
• Champion adoption of emerging technologies to meet scalability and innovation needs, especially in AI and data-intensive computing, as required by ELI ERIC’s science programmes 
• Engage with scientific staff and users (internal and external) to ensure ongoing adaptation to user needs ELI ERIC: Za Radnicí 835 Dolní Břežany, 252 41, Czech Republic I www.eli-laser.eu 
• Foster external partnerships and open science efforts, reinforcing sustainability and broader impact, and represent ELI at international events related to ICT matters and open science 

We expect you to have: 
• A university degree in a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred), or equivalent qualification 
• At least 10 years of professional experience, in an international environment 
• Comprehensive expertise across all ICT domains, with a deep understanding of end to-end ICT processes 
• A management track record with demonstrable experience including planning, organising, communication, and analytical skills 
• Strong leadership qualities, with demonstrated initiative, autonomy, and diplomacy 
• The ability to foster and sustain a collaborative, team-oriented culture 
• Outstanding presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and influence senior business and IT stakeholders 
• Excellent oral and written English; knowledge of Czech and/or Hungarian is an advantage
