Innovation will be a priority for the EU over the next six months

It is hard to see how much the EU's president nation can achieve in its six months, but it is good to see that Finland plans to highlight innovation in its time in the driving seat.

The press release on the plan says: "The way to improve the EU's innovation policy is to develop markets that encourage innovation and create new demand, states the Finnish priorities paper. Important factors listed include standards, public procurements, enhancing the efficient operation of the market, mobility of research resources, and closer cooperation between universities and businesses."

If nothing else, we can expect to see plenty of material coming out of Brussels on innovation over the next half year. (Finland takes over in July.) Details of the Presidency is on the dedicated web site.
