China and the EU have embarked on Science and Technology Year
Always on the lookout for any excuse to add more weight to the Chinese bandwagon, the European Commission has put out a press release announcing "EU and China launch Science and Technology Year". In this we read that "activities will take place in China and the EU to promote co-operation across all fields of science and technology. These activities will include conferences, workshops, seminars, forums and exhibitions."
At least the EU can claim a history of working with China. They first signed one of those deeply meaningful cooperation agreements back in the 1980s.
It may not be wise, though, given attitudes to the EU in some countries, to point out that Science and Technology year, which runs from October 2006 to September 2007, "coincides with the adoption and start of the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme and the renewal of China’s 11 Year Plan".
