The European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU) this week celebrates its tenth birthday with a conference at the University of Twente, attended by representatives from all eleven ECIU members and three partner universities in Mexico, Russia and Australia.

The ECIU partnership has given rise to three joint European Master’s degree programmes in which students attend classes at three or more universities. The consortium has also encouraged greater student mobility between member institutions and staff exchanges and training.

ECIU President Professor E. Becker, Rector of the University of Dortmund, says ECIU is an active international network. “Members greatly benefit from the opportunity to establish a constant flow of information and exchange of experiences in the fields of education administration, student exchange, staff mobility and technology transfer with vibrant partners from all over Europe.”

The consortium focuses on improving teaching and learning, enhancing university–society interactions and policy development and practice within the evolving European Higher Education Area.

Its members are Aalborg University, Denmark; Hamburg University of Technology, Germany; the Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal; the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain; the University of Dortmund, Germany; Strathclyde University, UK, University of Twente, Netherlands; the Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France; the University of Warwick, UK; the Politecnico di Torino, Italy; and Linköping University, Sweden.
