Chalmers to host international industrial biotechnology meeting

04 Aug 2010 | Network Updates

Some of the world’s most prominent researchers in industrial biotechnology will gather at Chalmers on August 18-20 to take part in the seminar “Industrial Systems Biology, Sustainable Production of Fuels and Chemicals.” The seminar will be led by Jens Nielsen, Professor of Quantitative Systems Biology.

The focus during the two days will be on the development of new cell-based factories for the production of chemicals and fuels.

The European Research Council has ranked Nielsen’s industrial biotechnology group to be one of the top five in the world in this field. The group uses modified yeast cells to produce chemicals that can replace oil-based products and generate protein pharmaceuticals.

The seminar is supported by Friends of Chalmers - a fund for the future of Chalmers.
