University of Warwick names Scott as new pro-vice-chancellor for international strategy

The University of Warwick has announced that Professor Michael Scott will be the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International). He begins the role from 1st September, taking over from Professor Mike Shipman.

Professor Scott will lead Warwick’s international strategy, covering Europe, China, Africa and North America, as well as Warwick’s relationship with Australia’s Monash University. The development of both new and existing markets for our international student recruitment will be another key area of focus.

Professor Scott is currently the Director of the Warwick Institute of Engagement and a Professor in the Classics and Ancient History Department. He has held Visiting Fellowships in China and the US, as well as taught and conducted research across the globe focused both on the ancient Mediterranean and on ancient global history. He is a popular and highly-respected author as well as regular contributor to national and international media.

Prior to his role in the Warwick Institute of Engagement, he co-led the Connecting Cultures GRP and was a member of the Global History and Culture Centre’s steering committee.

Professor Scott believes passionately in making academic research as accessible as possible to a broad range of audiences, and has written and presented a wide range of television, radio and podcast series for channels in the UK, US and Australia. He was made an Honorary Citizen of Delphi, Greece in recognition of the global impact of his research and engagement.

I look forward to working with colleagues across the University to develop our international student recruitment, enrich the inter-cultural feeling of our campus and deepen the range of international opportunities for our home students.

“At the same time, Warwick is justly proud of its excellent and wide-ranging international research and global partnerships, and I am excited to collaborate with colleagues and partners at home and abroad to embed and extend our global standing and impact as we work together to solve the common challenges we face.”
