After the development of 5G mobile networks, global efforts are now under way to prepare for 6G, the next generation of mobile networks expected to be on the market by 2030. Paola Grosso and Chrysa Papagianni of the Informatics Institute are involved in programme line 2 'Intelligent Networks'.

The MultiScale Networked System (MNS) group and Dr Chrysa Papagianni in particular, will contribute to the objective related to 'new algorithms, methods and software modules for composing and controlling intelligent networks'.

In particular, the MNS group will bring their expertise in programmable dataplanes, telemetry and in general 6G architecture. Chrysa will lead the work packages 'AI-assisted networking' (WP3). Five PhDs and two postdocs will be hired.

The MNS group chaired by Dr Paola Grosso is looking forward to working with the industrial partners in the project with whom they are working more closely, for example Nokia, Ericcson and NVIDIA.

Opportunities for Dutch innovations in 6G mobile networks

Mobile networks are a key driving force for the digitalisation of our society and the earning power in all economic sectors, from industry and energy to logistics and healthcare. Dutch companies have identified large opportunities in 6G network technology and applications that will enter the market from 2030 onwards. In addition, the targeted development of 6G can strongly contribute to the Dutch and European ambitions in the areas of digital autonomy and sustainability.
