NCBR: Poland's research funding agency appoints new director

On 7 June 2024, the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Dariusz Wieczorek, appointed Professor Jerzy Małachowski as Director of the National Centre for Research and Development (Polish: NCBR – Narodowe Centrum Badań I Rozwoju). As of 7 March this year, Prof. Małachowski has held the position of acting director of the institution.

Prof. Małachowski is a graduate of the Military University of Technology in Warsaw (Polish: WAT – Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna). He was awarded the title of professor in technical sciences in 2019. He has led numerous projects and participated as an executor in more than thirty projects focused on scientific, development and implementation tasks. The results of these research works include nine patents and three more at the approval stage. Member of scientific committees of more than forty national and international conferences. He regularly reviews scientific articles in JCR-listed journals. His publication output includes more than six hundred papers. In 2010, he was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit by the President of the Republic of Poland, and in 2011, the Medal of the National Education Commission. Since 2016, he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the WAT.

I have four years of an intensive tenure ahead of me, during which I want to make NCBR a modern, transparent and effective organisation. My priorities include organising and streamlining processes and bringing the world of science closer to the business world.” – director Małachowski pointed out.
