The Indian Delegation headed by the Additional Secretary/Stellvertretende Staatsekretärin of the MoCAF & PD was composed out of Members from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Representatives of the Global Project Quality Infrastructure of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The visit was embedded in the 9th annual session of the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure which was held under the auspices of the German Ministry of Economy and Climate Action (BMWK). The Indian Delegation expressed a special interest to visit BAM to discover more about actual scientific research in the green transition of Germany’s economy and the contribution of BAM to the QI-Digital initiative. QI Digital compose central players in Germany’s quality infrastructure (QI) – such as DIN, DKE, DAkkS, PTB, and BAM. The Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) supports QI-Digital as an essential contribution to the success of innovative technologies, products, and processes - to strengthen Germany as a business location.
After a general introduction and oversight of BAM’s tasks the visit focused on two pilot projects of QI Digital where BAM sets up physical test environments in order to develop new measurement and test methods for digital quality assurance and also contribute to the development of a so called QI-Cloud to support digital development. A presentation focused on the USE Case H2 – Digital Network research filling station and thereafter a visit of different stations of BAM’s battery test centre was organized and the Indian delegation had insight to battery cell tests and into the development of electrochemical energy materials.
The guests showed great interest in all the topics and discussed many of the aspects vividly with their BAM hosts of the different sections. The additional Secretary expressed profound interest in the work and the scientific achievements of BAM and underlined the importance of technological innovation to foster growth and green transition in India with 1,4 billion inhabitants and the challenge to mitigate the impacts of global climate change. The BAM researchers encouraged the Indian side to send young professionals to be enrolled in PHD and the various BAM scholarship programs and to continue scientific exchange and underlined that actually more than 40 employees of BAM are coming from India.
