BAM and partners develop a European platform for testing innovative façade systems

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is working with partners in the European research project METABUILDING LABS to develop an internet-based platform for testing façades in order to accelerate the market launch of innovative products.

The constantly increasing legal requirements regarding the energy efficiency of façade systems pose new challenges for the European construction industry. To support medium-sized companies in the development of innovative and sustainable façade systems, the team is building an internet-based platform as part of the European Horizon 2020 research project METABUILDING LABS.

The platform will cover a wide range of testing and certification services for façades. The testing services will be bundled in a single entry point. The creation of digital models of building envelopes makes it possible, for example, to predict the behaviour of buildings under different environmental conditions already at the planning stage. Thus, the development of innovative systems, from initial testing to European product launch with CE certification, is accompanied and supported under one roof.

40 institutions from 13 European countries are involved in the METABUILDING LABS network. BAM contributes its extensive testing facilities and technical expertise to this network. In addition, BAM leads a subproject that enables the continuous quality assurance of the testing infrastructures and services in the network and provides the testing & quality manager in the project management team.
