In March 2025, the EU adopted the European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation, which is designed to establish a secure and standardised digital ecosystem for health data. This framework enables the safe access and sharing of electronic health data across the EU, with the aim of giving individuals greater control over their personal health information. It should also help the secondary use of health data for research, innovation and policy-making, while maintaining robust privacy protections.
