EU-sponsored Initiative aims to better define research management as a role and a career path
Research managers in EU projects have a lot on their hands. They oversee budgets, communication, audits, quality assurance, regulatory compliance and ethics. They write proposals, coordinate participants and serve as mediators. Their to-do list is endless, but there are few definitions of their role, training is scarce and career paths often uncertain.
A new European framework, RM Comp, aims to improve this situation by setting out what a research manager’s skills and competencies ought to be. Together with planned follow-up actions, the aim is to improve recognition for the role and to reconcile different national approaches that can cause miscommunication and slow down international collaborations…
