While US participation in Horizon Europe is not high, collaboration in health research appears to be booming

At a time of great debate about the future of transatlantic cooperation in research and innovation, health research in Horizon Europe shines like a beacon in the night. Since 2021 there have been 134 US participations in 79 Horizon Europe health projects, where each participation represents an organisation signing on to take part in a project.
To put this into perspective, there have been only 41 US participations in energy, mobility and climate research projects, the next most frequented part of Horizon Europe.
Harvard University is the most active academic institution in the health collaborations, participating in five of the 79 projects. Joining Harvard at the top of the ranking is Breakthrough T1D, a research organisation that focuses on type 1 diabetes.
