Doors will soon open for researchers to experiment with hybrid quantum computing at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre in Munich

The Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Germany has integrated a quantum computer into its supercomputer, in what is believed to be a world first, and which will allow researchers and industry to test the potential of quantum for solving complex problems.
The installation was undertaken by a consortium led by Finnish company IQM Quantum Computers and including Eviden and HQS Quantum Simulation. Unlike the IQM quantum computer that is connected remotely to the LUMI supercomputer in northern Finland, the new system is physically located next to the main computer in Munich, with tight software integration between the two.
