A new strategy aims to combine national support with participation in the EU Chips Act to attract multinationals and support local start-ups

The Irish government has unveiled a Silicon Island strategy, with the aim of becoming a global leader in the semiconductor industry by supporting investment in research and development, skills and manufacturing.
“We feel we are a key player within the global industry as it is,” said Seamus Carroll, vice-president of microelectronics and semiconductors at IDA Ireland, which is responsible for attracting foreign direct investment. With the new strategy, Ireland wants to “double down” and increase its market share even further, he told Science|Business.
