Millions of euros could be up for grabs for teams that can demonstrate viable technologies, from lithium extraction to synthetic fuels
The European Commission is considering five new multi-million-euro prizes for renewable technology inventors, offering rewards in areas including synthetic fuels from photosynthesis and seasonal thermal energy storage.
Earlier this month, the Commission published a study by external consultants recommending the prizes, and now officials are looking to see how they might be incorporated into future Horizon Europe work programmes.
The point is to accelerate technology transfer, said a Commission official authorised to speak anonymously, by making industry see that something could have real world applications.
