In 2020 the EU adopted the Farm to Fork Strategy as part of the European Green Deal, signalling its commitment to ensuring food security, sustainable agriculture, and improving nutrition.
The aims is to make the EU’s food system sustainable by addressing the entire value chain, from production to consumption. Key objectives include increasing production, reducing food waste, promoting healthy diets, ensuring fair and resilient food supply chains, with fair incomes for farmers, and aligning agriculture with EU climate goals.
In support of this, the EU backs agriculture and food research through programmes including Horizon Europe.
