The EUA’s vision for the ninth Framework programme advocates enhanced University-based research as a means for addressing the challenges facing Europe.
The EUA, a representation of over 800 universities and national rectors’ conferences, highlights the contribution made by universities to European societal progress. It uses this to advocate a strong future Framework Programme. The EUA lays out three areas of recommendation: firstly, “to provide long-term policies and funding instruments for research”; secondly, “to reinforce collaboration and minimise discrepancies across the EU”; thirdly, “to seek a stronger alignment of policies for education, research and innovation”.

“European research should also emphasise that the final goal is not only about direct application of technology, but also stimulating scientific freedom, autonomy and ethical behaviour.”
