Universities Denmark: Move focus back to basics

12 Jan 2017 | Policy paper

Universities of Denmark outline their concerns for the design of the next Framework programme.

This report outlines the position of eight Danish universities towards the next Framework Programme. Incidentally, it provides eight areas for comment, touching on the possible structure of FP9 and the way it weights its funding. The paper questions the focus on funding research which is close to the market and asks for greater participation of social sciences and humanities. It also calls for better grant application success rates and greater simplification in order to improve participation.

From the report:

“Horizon 2020 has created a gap between the fundamental research funded by the European Research Council (ERC) to the later stage innovation funded in Societal Challenges and Industrial Leadership. More funding should be allocated to collaborative research projects at lower Technology Readiness Levels (TRL).”
