The MED-EU strategic project aims to raise EU funds for scientific research and innovation. The project is coordinated by the University of Bologna and a few clinical institutes such as the S.Orsola-Malpighi University Hospital, the Rizzoli Institute for Orthopedics and the Institute for Neurologic Sciences of the Bellaria hospital.

Considering the increasing demand for interdisciplinary research throughout the EU, MED-EU’s main challenge is to bridge the gap between biomedical research and clinical practice, and to improve patients’ quality of life.

The project is supported by the Emilia-Romagna Agency for Health and Social Care and is inspired by the successful experience of the University of Bologna, who introduced scientific advisors within its administrative staff. Their past scientific background, together with their management expertise, allows them to be an effective advisory group for researchers who want to apply for EU funding and manage EU projects.

MED-EU officers are scientific advisors in each of the MED-EU member institutions and have research experience in Italy, US and Europe. The officers hold MA and PhD degrees in a broad range of scientific fields: pharmaceutical chemistry, cell and molecular biology, oncology and experimental pathology, and EU law.

Their mission is to be a point of reference within their own institutions and to gather all different research and clinical competences in a unique catalyst platform that is able to boost networking and lobbying capabilities.

Med-EU’s medium and long term goals are to strengthen international partnerships, boost the number of EU funding applications in the fields of regional health services, and to promote the excellence of regional research and training centres worldwide.
