After eight years as Chalmers president, Karin Markides has informed the board that she will not be standing for a third term. This means she will be relinquishing her position as president and CEO of Chalmers tekniska högskola AB in just over a year’s time, on the 31st of July 2015.

‘I’ve had the pleasure of leading Chalmers for eight years, and it has been a fantastic period. In my position as president I have time and time again experienced the respect Chalmers enjoys, as a seat of learning with a deep and broad integration in social development. And I have still a whole year of inspiration and challenge before me,’ said Karin Markides.

Karin Markides is a professor of chemistry and came to Chalmers from a position as vice general director of Vinnova in 2006, consequent to a research career in USA and at Uppsala University, Sweden.
‘Since then Chalmers and I have achieved a good deal to be proud about, but now I have decided to take the opportunity to take on new challenges,’ said Karin Markides.

Lena Treschow Torell is chairperson of the board:
‘Karin has lead Chalmers devotedly and successfully, and I’m pleased she is staying on for another year. I would draw special attention to her importance to Chalmers’ position internationally, and the quality and distinct orientation Chalmers research now has,’ said Lena Treschow Torell.

Recruitment of a new principal will start directly after the summer holidays. The objective is for the Chalmers board to be able to decide who is to become the new president and managing director in the spring of 2015.
