Europe’s largest general science meeting introduces special one day ticket for its policy programme

ESOF - Europe’s largest general science meeting - has introduced a one day Policy Day pass for individuals who don't wish to attend the entire conference, but would like to participate in the policy focused day on 13 July.

ESOF2012, set to take place in Dublin next week, is Europe’s largest general science meeting and is held in a major European city every two years. Science|Business CEO and Editor Richard L. Hudson will moderate several panel discussions at this year’s event.

The Policy Day programme participants include key players in European and International Research Policy such as John Bell, chef de cabinet Geoghegan-Quinn; Robert-Jan Smits, Director General for Research & Innovation; Dominique Ristori, Director General of the Joint Research Centre; Prof. Anne Glover, Chief Scientific Adviser to President Barroso, from Helga Nowotny, President of the European Research Council and Subra Suresh, Director of the National Science Foundation.

Policy Day will include over 20 sessions and workshops on topics such as Horizon 2020; Research Infrastructure; the European Research Area; Young Researchers and the Marie Curie Programme; International Research Collaborations; Policy Implications of Climate Change; Scientific Publishing and Open Access; Sustainable Growth and Fracking.

One of the key sessions titled ‘The Future of Innovation Policy-Forging Policy in Uncertain Times’ organised by Ireland’s leading policy agency Forfás will feature speakers Martin Shanahan; CEO of Forfás, Seán Sherlock; Minister of State for Research and Innovation, John Bell; chef de cabinet Geoghegan-Quinn, Brian MacCraith; President of DCU, Ken Guy; Head of Science and Technology Policy OECD, leading the discussion of the future of innovation policy in Ireland.

Policy Day will be formally opened with a plenary address by Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation & Science, entitled:  Collaboration, Competition, Connection – evidence of intelligent design in European science policy?
