Karolinska Institutet has climbed eleven places on the Times Higher Education's list of the world's top universities for 2011-2012, and now ranks 32nd. This makes it the sixth top-ranking university in Europe (tenth last year) and first in the Nordic region.
The California Institute of Technology, Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, Princeton and Cambridge top the list, and only four Nordic universities are amongst the 100 best. Alongside Karolinska Institutet are Lund University (80th), Uppsala (87th) and Helsinki (91st).
The more subject-specific list, which is of greater relevance to Karolinska Institutet as a medical university, will be released at the end of the month.
