Collaboration agreed

Germany and France have entered a new era of collaboration in computer science, following the recent signing of a cooperation agreement in Nancy, France.

A joint project between six German and six French institutes has been in place for the past six years. Now the partners intend to improve coordination and expand the number topics covered.

The first meeting of a new steering committee formed to direct the research will take place at Fraunhofer IESE in Kaiserslautern during the second week of March.

One particular aim is to improve the coordination of joint applications for European grants.

The German institutions involved are: German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH); Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE); Max Planck Institute for Informatics; Max Planck Institute for Software Systems; University of Kaiserslautern; and Saarland University.

Their French counterparts are the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique; Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique; Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine; Université Henri Poincaré Nancy 1; Université Nancy 2; and Université Paul Verlaine de Metz.
