The European science and technology information service AlphaGalileo will add Spanish to its site after an agreement with Spain’s national body for promoting public understanding of science.

The European science and technology information service AlphaGalileo will add Spanish to its site after signing an agreement with the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT), Spain’s national body for promoting public understanding of science.

From this spring, AlphaGalileo Spain will have administrative and navigational texts in Spanish that can be accessed from http://www.alphagalileo.es or as a language option from http://www.alphagalileo.org.

From its base in FECYT’s Madrid office, AlphaGalileo Spain will encourage the media to promote research carried out by Spanish researchers. Under the agreement the will all get free access to the AlphaGalileo service.

The collaboration with FECYT is perhaps the most significant development in the life of AlphaGalileo service since it was set up in 2003, said Mark Payne, chief executive of AlphaGalileo.

“We hope that the model that we and FECYT are developing will be adopted elsewhere to provide national or regional offices to support better media coverage of European research.”
