German researchers at the Fraunhofer’s Institut Photonische Mikrosysteme (IPMS) in Dresden have devised a method of integrating light-emitting diodes into standard CMOS silicon chips. The technique is relevant to a range of applications, including microdisplays and optoelectronics.

The technology will be displayed at the Smart System Integration Show 2007 in Paris, from 27 to 28 March.
