Russian oil giant launches venture fund

Russian oil giant Gazprom has set up a venture fund to support the development of new technologies and equipment for use the company’s existing and perspective projects.

Gazprom said its strategic aim of becoming a world leading global energy company could only be achieved with world-class technical and technological resources.

In particular the company feels it will need to develop equipment for use in different climatic conditions. The aim is to optimise the efficiency of equipment and to gain competitive advantage through developing and applying new products.

This will rely on pulling together the company”s internal resources with scientific collaborators, equipment producers, and financial institutions. One of the core instruments enabling this will be the venture fund.

The main roles for the fund will be to pull together innovative projects and commercialise products in external markets.
