Slovenia presents Presidency aims for science and technology

The Slovenian Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Mojca Kucler Dolinar, has pledged to conclude adoption of the £400 million Eurostars initiative.

The Slovenian Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Mojca Kucler Dolinar, outlined the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency in science and technology to the European Parliament’s Committee for Industry, Research and Energy, saying, “Europe has entered a period of new opportunities which have to be used efficiently to achieve appreciable sustainable progress in strategic areas such as upgrading research infrastructure, establishing the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and the Joint Technology Initiative.”

She pledged the Slovenian Presidency conclude the adoption of the €400 million Eurostars initiative to encourage and provide financing for market-oriented industrial research and development in SMEs.

Work will continue on the formation of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and enhancing the European Research Area. This will include more effective integration of the Western Balkan countries and moves to strengthen the role of
women in science.

In information technology the Presidency will focus on evaluation of the i2010 strategic policy framework, which is one of the key elements of the renewed Lisbon Partnership for Growth, in a bid to see i2010 implemented faster.
