MRI specialist raises £178,875

Specialty Scanners plc, which is developing a new breed of dedicated, magnetic resonance (MR) scanners, such as 'breast-only' MR scanners for breast cancer management, raised GBP178,875 in a private placement.

The London-based company has developed its MR scanner technology in collaboration with the UK Institute of Cancer Research and the UK Government's Science & Technology Facilities Council. It has patented technology for scaled-down scanners that are lower cost, more flexible and easier to operate than their bigger cousins.

Speciality Scanners aim to apply the machines to the clinical management of cancer, using them in operations to guide biopsies and tumour removal. They could also be used in health screening and in particular to bring the increased resolution that MRI provides to breast cancer screening.
