The Commission this week published a new guide to help users of European research, innovation and cohesion funding – the “Practical Guide to EU funding opportunities for Research and Innovation”.

The European Commission this week published a new guide to help better use of European research, innovation and cohesion funding. The “Practical Guide to EU funding opportunities for Research and Innovation” is intended to help anyone tap into the different strands for EU funding.

The need to promote the knowledge economy, in particular through research, technological development and innovation is central to realising the goals of the Lisbon Agenda. EU support for these areas is provided mainly through the 7th Research Framework Programme, the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme and the Structural & Cohesion Funds.

The Commission says that for their impact to be maximised, it is essential that these sources of funding are used in a coherent way.

The guide provides user-friendly information on combining the different funding sources. It includes a description of each fund, advice for policy makers and a checklist and scorecard, so that users can quickly and accurately identify how they can access European funding at every stage of a project’s development and implementation.
