All parts of Horizon Europe may contribute to post-2027 ‘moonshot’ projects, says Commission

When the European Commission presented its proposal for the next iteration of Horizon Europe on July 16, it put an end to months of uncertainty around the continuation of a standalone Framework Programme. But it also raised new questions around links to the future European Competitiveness Fund (ECF), including plans to launch a series of “moonshot” projects designed to position Europe as a global leader in strategic fields.

The explanatory section at the beginning of the Horizon Europe proposal says that the Framework Programme and the ECF could finance a “coherent sequence between research and innovation, demonstration, development and deployment” for moonshot projects with a strong scientific component, in areas that could contribute to European competitiveness and strategic…
