France Biotech introduces seed-dating for start-ups

France Biotech, the French association for life science entrepreneurs has announced a new online initiative to encourage seed financing for life science start-ups – Bioweb Seed-Dating.

This monthly meeting will take place in the evening on the first Thursday of each month during a web conference and, says the association, underlines France Biotech’s commitment to help its young member

companies in their search for financing. These meetings are dedicated to setting up initial contacts between life science start-ups and investors (business angels and financial community).

During a seed-dating session, five entrepreneurs will have 10 minutes to introduce themselves live – through presentations online and by phone – and investors will be able to ask questions. Investors will then be free to contact companies directly to set up one-to-one sessions.

Following the introduction, each company presentation will be available on France Biotech’s website to maximise exposure and contacts.

Philippe Pouletty, Chairman of France Biotech, said, “Even though the France's wealth tax reform has stimulated business angels and innovation-focused investment funds, seed funding is still difficult - so arranging the first “flirt” between entrepreneurs and investors is essential for the success of biotechnology companies!”

The initiative is open to young, innovative life science companies belonging to France Biotech. Priority will be given to companies that are less than five years old, and have raised less than €1 million.
