WITT Ltd: Generating energy from water movement

Licensing opportunity

WITT Ltd, a company based in France, has developed a device that can be fitted in buoys to collect energy. The company is seeking to license the technology, to accelerate the product being brought to market.

Currently, many buoys are lit by solar-powered lamps, a process that is dependent on adequate sunshine reaching the buoys’ solar panels. The patented WITT technology can be fitted inside a buoy and used to collect energy from water movement. This energy could then be used to light the buoy, with any excess being stored in the buoy for later use elsewhere.

The company has created a prototype that has been shown to collect energy, and is now fitting the first working prototype into a new-style buoy that will be placed in Hayle Harbour, Cornwall, UK.

WITT Ltd is also building a small boat that will have a built-in WITT. The energy generated will be used to power the boat’s movement, and stored for use by other vessels.
