Partnership
InterMed Discovery, a natural product lead-discovery company, and Axxam SpA, a gene-to-lead biotechnology company, said their joint research efforts to develop a single technology platform for the discovery and screening of natural bioactive compounds has been successful.
As a result, the two companies have signed a second partnership agreement to further combine their technologies. The joint technology platform offers an integrated approach to the screening, discovery and profiling of functional ingredients from natural sources for various applications. These bioactive compounds are particularly valuable to companies in the food, beverages, flavour and fragrance industries.
The joint research will focus on the mutual discovery and validation of flavour and fragrance functional ingredients. The compounds discovered will have clearly defined activity profiles and naturally-derived chemical properties, enhancing their value to potential users.
“This cooperation is a direct response to what we see as growing market needs,” said Thomas Henkel, Managing Director of InterMed Discovery. “Our innovative approach to developing natural functional ingredients together with Axxam caters perfectly to the increasing market demand for turnkey solutions.”
This joint research initiative deepens an already existing strategic alliance between the two companies, which was established in 2007.
