UCL has appointed Tony Owen as the Director of the UCL School of Energy and Resources in Adelaide, Australia, the university’s first overseas campus. Owen will take up his new post on 1 April.

The School of Energy has been founded in partnership with the Government of South Australia, and Santos Limited, one of Australia’s largest energy companies. It will provide a range of programmes for new graduates and established professionals, address areas of skill shortage identified by industry and government, and provide scientists and engineers with management skills through courses designed specifically for the energy sector.

South Australia Premier Mike Rann said, “Mining is a key to our future, and this is about plugging into the world’s best.”

An industry-focused MSc in Energy and Resources will be developed exclusively for the Adelaide campus, along with a portfolio of executive development courses.  The centre will also undertake research and policy development in energy and resource issues.
