EuropaBio files end of term report

Willy De Greef, Secretary General of EuropaBio, filed an end of term report as his first year in the office came to an end.

“This past year has seen many eventful developments and achievements in the biotechnology sector,” says De Greef. A review of EuropaBio’s achievements during the year and a look at the objectives that its sector councils will pursue in the coming year can be seen at the following links:

The EuropaBio Annual Report 2008-2009

EuropaBio has seven policy goals which it says are needed to build a dynamic biotechnology-based industry in Europe. This report shows how it is engaged to deliver on each of these goals.

The Healthcare Manifesto

The Healthcare Manifesto 2009-2010 outlines EuropaBio’s policy priorities for delivering new treatments to patients in Europe. At the heart of this is putting patients at the centre of healthcare policy decisions.

The Green Biotechnology Manifesto

Agricultural biotechnology has potential to further several of Europe’s key policy goals, including sustainability, CO2 emission reduction, energy efficiency, innovation, education, development, promotion of scientific research, retention of skills, health and trade. The Green Biotechnology Manifesto 2009-2010 outlines five areas in need of urgent attention and action, that could provide solutions to these problems.

Industrial Biotechnology & climate change

Industrial or ‘white biotechnology’ offers one of the most promising new approaches to pollution prevention, resource conservation, and cost reduction. Applications of white biotechnology can contribute to meeting the EU’s environmental objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent in 2020.

SME Platform: A Call For Action

EuropaBio’s SME Platform has published “Access to Finance: A Call for Action”, a paper highlighting problems and recommendations on how to tackle the issue of access to finance in the biotech industry. The paper highlights the concrete financial restraints biotech SMEs face, and offers suggestions for optimising EU funding instruments for biotech SMEs.
