The French biotech cluster Cancer-Bio-Santé in Toulouse has signed a collaboration agreement with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. The agreement links industry, academic research institutions, university hospitals and cancer centres in the two regions to further the development of diagnostics and drugs to treat cancer. The agreement was signed by Maryland’s Secretary Christian Johansson and CEO of Cancer-Bio-Santé Jean-Pierre Saintouil at the BIO 2010 International Convention in Chicago.

“Maryland is pleased to join forces with the French government, their academic institutions, and industry colleagues in the Cancer-Bio-Santé Cluster (CBSC) in Toulouse to identify opportunities for cooperation and collaboration in research and economic development,” said Johansson. “Both regions are biotech business powerhouses with more than 500 biotechnology companies located in Maryland and over 230 in the Cancer-Biotech-Health Cluster of France.”

“We are very pleased about this new collaboration with the State of Maryland and the Maryland Biotechnology Center,” said Saintouil.“This collaboration fits with the objective of the Cancer-Bio-Santé cluster to develop international relationships among companies, academic institutions and the Toulouse Cancer Campus Biopark and their counterparts in selected major international clusters in the field of cancer.”
