INSEAD has announced that it has received a €5 million donation from an alumnus to fund the growth of the Rudolf and Valeria Maag International Centre for Entrepreneurship (Maag ICE).

Maag ICE was established in 2003 to drive INSEAD’s entrepreneurship research, teaching and outreach, and serve as a catalyst for building businesses in a global world. The centre designs and implements initiatives to support the entrepreneurial activities of INSEAD faculty, students and alumni and brings together an international community people with an interest in entrepreneurship.

The donation will contribute to the Maag ICE’s mission and vision by supporting the teaching of entrepreneurship and providing focused research opportunities in business building. It will also support the continued development of events to promote entrepreneurial deal flow by bringing together ideas, technologies, people and funding.

The Centre’s four key areas of research are:

  • New Ventures Creation and Growth – Provides an understanding of the processes through which entrepreneurs build new organisations and create markets.

  • Social Entrepreneurship – Evaluates the distinctive domain and innovative approach of social entrepreneurs and the important role of social enterprise in the global economy.

  • Corporate Entrepreneurship – Offers an in-depth look at how new businesses are built in the context of established corporations and what it takes to launch new business units in emerging markets.

  • Acquisitions and Turnarounds – Builds an understanding of the dynamics of re-setting the clock to an existing organisation through a turn-around or corporate transformation.

Filipe Santos, a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Director of the Rudolf and Valeria Maag International Centre for Entrepreneurship said, “Our renowned faculty, entrepreneurial students and extensive global alumni network are establishing INSEAD as the world’s leading business school for entrepreneurship and a vehicle for fostering global business. The Maag Centre is the catalyst for these efforts.”
