The Scottish universities’ technology transfer website university-technology.com is advertising a new orthopaedic surgery tool.

The single stage suture anchor insertion system will allow a wide range of suture anchors to be inserted without the need to drill the bone and then retract. The technology allows surgeons to create an opening for pre-drilling and insertion of the suture anchor in a single step.

The opening created in this process provides a working channel, thus clearing the occluded visual field that occurs during current practice. A further benefit of the insertion method is that the surrounding tissue is protected from being damaged. A patent is pending.
